MyMEC App Available

We are excited to tell you about our new MyMEC app that will allow us to stay connected with you during a service interruption.

(You may have read about the app in recent Illinois Country Living articles.) Through the app you’ll be able to report an outage and see detailed maps - and we can keep you informed with details and service restoration alerts.

Expect Higher Usage Due to Weather

Your February 7th bill is for your electric usage January 1-31st.

Although the weather was mild at the end of January, it was much colder at the beginning of the month. Many of our members saw higher than normal bills for December’s usage because of the cold snap that began just after Christmas. Those bitterly cold temperatures continued through the first part of January, and after a small relief, hit us again mid month.

Most winters we don’t see below freezing temperatures that come to stay for so many consecutive days.

In 2018 Menard Electric Cooperative will award three college scholarships and one Youth to Washington Tour trip (June 8-15, 2018).

College & Lineworker School Scholarships Available

October 31, 2017

Menard Electric Cooperative General Manager Alisha Anker has announced that the Illinois electric cooperatives will award 10 scholarships of $2,000 each through the Thomas H. Moore Illinois Electric Cooperatives (IEC) Memorial Scholarship Program.

Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program

The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) may be able to help you pay your electric bill. If you believe you may qualify for benefits we encourage you to contact your local office to see if you qualify to receive benefits. If you do, a one-time lump sum payment is paid directly to us on your behalf. 

Applications are accepted beginning Oct 1 for seniors & disabled persons; Nov 1 for disconnected services & homes w/children under 6; Dec 1 for all others.

Linemen Aid in Hurricane Irma Power Restoration

Five local linemen from Menard Electric Cooperative have returned home after helping restore power to members of two cooperatives in Georgia after Hurricane Irma.

Help us Find These Members - Capital Credits Listing

In May 2017 our Board of Directors authorized a general retirement of capital credits earned in 1993 and a portion of 1994. Active members in 1993/1994 received a bill credit or check. (Remember, capital credits are the margins we earn that are allocated back to you each year because we are non-profit and member-owned)

Members who no longer receive service from us were mailed a check. Some of those checks were returned to us and that’s where you come in. We need your help to locate those members.

Pole Testing in Area

Our poles are the backbone of our distribution system. To make sure our system is strong we utilize a 10-year rotation schedule to inspect every pole in our territory. Pole inspectors are working for the next 5 weeks. You may notice the crews digging around poles, fixing ground wires, installing guy wire guards, and more. Vehicles are marked with SWPI signs. They will be working in our territory east of the Sherman/Springfield areas and in our northernmost territory near Topeka. See the shaded area of these maps-click on the images to enlarge them.
